AcesoMed up close: experiences and trivia
E
Caro, 22
Intern for mechanics and design
AcesoMed GmbH

What are you studying and why did you choose this field?

“I am studying biomedical engineering in Regensburg. I have always been interested in technology and I have also always liked medicine. My degree program represents a combination of these two fields and is therefore a perfect fit for me.”

You come from Bavaria. How did Saarland welcome you?

“Saarland has welcomed me really well, I felt very comfortable here right away. I was surprised, but it’s pretty similar to Bavaria in parts. For example, Saarlanders also like to eat a hearty meal sometimes. The proximity to France is of course convenient for short trips and there are also many beautiful spots of nature around Saarbrücken.”

Why did you choose AcesoMed?

“AcesoMed convinced me mainly through the application process. Unfortunately, I could not visit the company in advance because of the long distance. It was therefore all the more important that I was given many insights into the work that would await me in advance and that I was able to speak directly with my future colleagues. That way, I quickly realized that I would be well looked after and would fit into the team. I was also able to see for myself that “real” tasks awaited me and that I could learn something.”

What excites you about your job?

“I like creative work, which is why I enjoy developing and designing mechanical product components. I always have to think of new approaches to solutions, implement them and then test them, so I get direct feedback on my work.”

“I think variety is important and fortunately my work at AcesoMed was really diverse. From conception in CAD, to 3D printing, to prototyping, I was involved in all development steps. So I got a lot of insights into different areas of product development. I think that this way, as an intern, you can get to know company areas that you wouldn’t otherwise have on your radar.”

What makes AcesoMed special for you?

“AcesoMed is not a large corporation, which is why the work among each other is more personal. I always had the feeling that me and my colleagues work together to find the best solution and try to break new ground, to be innovative. The attitude of ‘We’ve always done it this way’ doesn’t exist and everyone can contribute their part to the big picture. The working atmosphere is productive, but at the same time really relaxed.”

What advice do you have for job seekers and other interns?

“I would advise other applicants not to be afraid of smaller, younger companies because they can give you more room for creativity and variety and you can take on more responsibility there.”

Thank you so much for your great work, Caro! We wish you all the best for your future and your studies.
